The Chinese Vegetarian Festival begins at the start of the ninth month in of the Lunar Calendar. During this period, Thailand's Chinese communities cut all kinds of meat and dairy out of their diet to purify their bodies.
Although not as popular as Phuket's, the celebration in Bangkok has its own merits and the best place to experience the festival is at Yaowarat, where one can enjoy all sorts of vegan dishes in hundreds of stalls that line up the main street.
